President Donald Trump is expected to ask federal agencies to create a budget that would include a high increase in Defense Department spending, as well as cuts that would allow the president to maintain Social Security and Medicaid. The budget moves will reduce the budget of the Environmental Protection Agency and the State Department.
- Father of fallen soldier refuses to meet with Trump
The father of a fallen commando who was killed during special operations in Yemen in January said he would not meet with President Trump on the day that his son’s body came home to America. William Owens told The Miami Herald that the government owed his son an investigation. “Why at this time did there have to be this stupid mission when it wasn’t even barely a week into his administration? Why?” The father said.
- Mattis pitches to Trump
United States Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis already maintains a larger than usual role in the Trump administration, he is both a high-ranking and trusted aide to the president, he is also the highest ranking defense employee. On the latter part, he will be pitching options for heightening the war against the Islamic State.
