Milo Yiannopoulos recently was thrust into the political spotlight after his planned appearance at the University of California Berkley was canceled due to violent protests. Milo Yiannopoulos is a British journalist, he is also a senior editor of Breitbart News, which is, as you probably know, a far-right news and opinion website that has been linked to white nationalist and anti-semitic groups over the years.
In January of 2016, Yiannopoulos co-founded the Yiannopoulos Privilege Grant with Margaret MacLennan. This grant will disperse 50 grants each of $2,500 to disadvantaged white men, this grant is aimed at helping them with their tertiary costs, starting in the 2016-2017 academic year. As of August 2016, the grant had not paid out any money or filed paperwork to become a charity in the United States.
In December 2015, Twitter suspended Yiannopoulos temporarily after he changed his profile description to say Buzzfeed’s “social justice editor.” The following month, his Twitter account lost its blue ribbon verification.
He is a supporter of Donald Trump, he refers to him as “Daddy”. In an article he and a co-author wrote for Breitbart, he spoke positively about Donald’s movement and its intellectual backers, who he said were “dangerously bright”.
Yiannopoulos hosted the Young Rewired State competition in 2010, which is aimed at displaying the technology-related talents of 15-18-year-olds. He also organized the London Nude Tech Calendar, which had members of the London technology scene in order to raise money for Taking Heart India.
Feminist Julie Bindel and Yiannopoulos were supposed to be featured in the University of Manchester Free Speech and Secular Society’s debate ‘From liberation to censorship: does modern feminism have a problem with free speech?’ In October 2015, the Students’ Union banned Bindel, and then Yiannopoulos.
Even though Yiannopoulos is gay, he had said that gay rights are detrimental to humanity and that gay men should “get back in the closet.” He said that he wants to try conversion therapy, but he doesn’t think it’ll work.
